Other/Previous Bands: Before Slipknot he was in the bands Avanga, Havenots, Modifidious (with Craig Jones) and Anal Blast (with Paul Gray - they wrote and recordered the 'Vaginal Vempire' CD). Then he was in a punk band called The Rejects, now known as Murderdolls. He also joined black metal project Hell Pig with Necrophagia's frontman Killjoy (he also wanted to join Necrophagia when they looked for a drummer, but he was busy with Slipknot) - Joey says he's going to take up the craziest drumming in whole of black metal history. And there's also a project called Amiccus (with Lord Ahriman of Dark Funeral), but there's almost nothing known about it and they aren't active right now. First Instrument: Guitar, he started with it at age 5. He started playing drums at age 7, and only because he was in a band playing the guitar and the drummer wasn't cutting it... so Joey just filled in. Other Facts: - He made a cameo appearance in Marilyn Manson's 'Tainted Love' video. - His previous jobs include a midnight shift at Sinclair's gas station, helping out at his mom and stepdad's funeral parlour, and at Musicland, a store in west Des Moines. - He still lives with his mom. Aww. - It has been widely reported that he has a 'thing' for Fiona Apple, though he's not listening to her CDs anymore. He's now listening to Norah Jones, apparently. Yes, you did just read that correctly. - He did the backing vocals on the Machine Head song 'Nothing Left'. - He remixed Marilyn Manson's 'Fight Song', which appears on the Resident Evil soundtrack. He is also a good friend of Manson.
[JOEY IN SLIPKNOT]
Number: 1. Because drums are "the pivotal thing in Slipknot" and he's like "the glue that hold the band together". Instrument: Drums. Joey plays the main set. Facts: - He's the shortest and most talkative member of the 'knot. - He created the term 'Maggot' for a Slipknot fan. - He's written a lot of Knot's lyrics. (Most famously the lyrics to Scissors, and the choruses to Surfacing & Spit It Out) - He also wrote most of the music - together with Paul. - He mixed the self-titled album, and created their Tribal 'S' logo. - He can also be seen on the cover of Mate Feed Kill Repeat - sitting naked in a metal cage, which was made by himself, Shawn, Paul and Anders. - He ripped off the arms and legs of his suit, to allow more freedom in his drumming. - Before recording 'Iowa' he was running 2 miles everyday to be fit to drum songs like People=Shit, Disasterpiece and the Heretic Anthem. - His favourite Slipknot song is (sic). - It is said that he 'invented' the capital K in SlipKnot because when they started the band he was fan of KoRn. (He now dislikes them as Korn & the 'knot have had feuds in the past) - You all know his famous drum solo.. he admits he's been inspired by Tommy Lee. - Joey's old drum-riser was designed and half-made by Shawn (who was a welder) - In the song Dogfish Rising from MFKR he plays guitar and drums. - Joey came up with the basis of the "mask idea" - "There was this great feeling of something new. Shawn had make-up on his face that made his eyes look sunken. Andy had this grotesque face, painted all crazy. I was looking at them while we were playing and thought it fitted with the music."
[JOEY IN MURDERDOLLS]
Instrument: guitar, backing vocals. Facts: - He and Wednesday 13 wrote all the songs on the debut album. In fact Weds wrote the majority of the lyrics (as songs were used from his old band Frankenstein Drag Queens) and together with Joey they swapped and reshaped the songs and made them fit into the Murderdolls' sound. - He plays all the drums, as well as some bass, guitars and a little keyboard on the album. - He wrote the songs 'Let's Fuck' and 'I Take Drugs' in 1995. - He describes their records as "Not another record with depressive lyrics! Just fun!" - Murderdolls evolved from The Rejects - Joey's punk band from Des Moines with song titles like 'Punk on Junk' , 'Shut Your Fuck' and so on... Then the Rejects recruited Wednesday as a bass guitarist and within a few months he had moved to vocals, and as the band had gone through so many changes they were now totally different, so they changed the name to fit with their new sound...Becoming the Murderdolls.
I will be adding more stuff later but yeah.... |
